Custard Cream Squares (Print-Friendly Version)

Golden puff pastry paired with velvety vanilla custard and whipped cream. Perfect for parties or enjoying a sweet moment.

# Ingredients:

01 - 4 cups fresh whole milk.
02 - 2 sheets of thawed puff pastry.
03 - 1 1/4 cups plain flour.
04 - 1 1/2 cups white sugar.
05 - 8 eggs, yolks and whites separated.
06 - 3 teaspoons of vanilla.
07 - Optional: 2 tablespoons of rum.
08 - 2 tablespoons powdered sugar, plus a bit extra for sprinkling.
09 - 2 cups chilled heavy cream.

# Steps:

01 - Turn your oven on to 350°F. Lay out the puff pastry on trays and bake them for 10 minutes till golden. Let cool.
02 - Heat 3 cups of milk on the stove. Mix sugar with egg yolks till creamy, stir in the flour, vanilla, rum, and the leftover milk.
03 - Pour the egg mix into the hot milk and keep stirring till thick. Take it off the heat.
04 - Whisk the egg whites until stiff. Gently mix them into the custard.
05 - Place one sheet of pastry in a baking dish and spread custard over it. Chill it for 1-2 hours.
06 - Layer whipped cream onto the custard, top with cut squares of the remaining pastry. Chill it in the fridge another 2 hours.

# Notes:

01 - Needs 3-4 hours of chilling altogether.
02 - Sprinkle some powdered sugar when ready to serve.
03 - Store it in the fridge.
