In a saucepan, blend the sugar, flour, and salt. Gradually whisk in the milk and simmer until it thickens and starts bubbling.

Beat the eggs, then slowly pour the hot mix into the eggs bit by bit while stirring. Pour back into the pan and heat until it just starts bubbling.

Take off the heat after stirring in the vanilla. Let the pudding sit for about 15 minutes, stirring it every now and then to cool.

In an 8-inch square pan, make layers of wafers, banana slices, and pudding twice, finishing with a top layer of pudding.

Cover the dessert and put it in the fridge for at least 4 hours or leave it overnight to set. Sprinkle crushed wafers on top before enjoying.
